The second in a series of workshops delivered as part of TECHNE's 'Philosophy and Critical Methods' Conflux, this workshop explores critical theory as it is typically understood, i.e. in reference to the Frankfurt School. Starting with an exploration of the ‘culture industry’ and the ‘dialectic of Enlightenment’ (Adorno and Horkheimer), the workshop proceeds to trace the development of the Frankfurt School in the work of Habermas, followed by a group discussion of the strengths and weakness of his bid to save the Enlightenment.

Facilitator: Dr Tom Bunyard (University of Brighton)

Only TECHNE students are eligble, although consideration will be made for non-TECHNE students if demand is low. Non-TECHNE stduents should enquire before booking: christian.gilliam@surrey.ac.uk
