Presenting your Research Effectively at an Academic Conference

25th Nov 2019 10:00am-4:30pm

Book in: email techne@rhul.ac.uk

If you don’t know how presenting your research at a conference – let alone effectively – can be daunting. Yet it doesn’t have to be. This training takes you through the process of putting together an effective research presentation: from laying the foundations and structuring your presentation to public speaking skills and ending with the start in mind. In the process of this one-day course, learning outcomes include:

  • Knowing the ‘4 whats’ of effective communication to shape your presentation’s content
  • Knowing a simple model to create your introduction
  • Knowing how to handle your nerves and answer questions
  • Knowing how to write an effective abstract and choose the right conference for you

This course will be run by Matt Lane from the Researcher Development Partnership Ltd. Dr Matt Lane is a Researcher Developer at the University of Cambridge, a position he has held since 2010. He specialises in Writing and Professional Effectiveness, holding the CIPD’s Certificate in Learning & Development and practitioner accreditation in MBTI and Belbin Team Roles. In 2017, he was recognised by Cambridge for his ‘outstanding contribution’ for creating the bespoke Researcher Development Competency Framework.
