Submit a proposal of maximum 1500 words of your research by 5 February 2021, 5 pm by email to Dr Monomita Nandy (monomita.nandy@brunel.ac.uk). Presentation eligible for poster presentation will be notified by 12 February 2021. A panel of experts will review the selected proposals and will select the awards award which will be shared with the participants on the day of the event.
Speakers details
1.Catherine Lyall is Professor of Science and Public Policy at the University of Edinburgh where, despite a first degree in chemistry, she holds a position in the School of Social and Political Science. Her career at Edinburgh has progressed from part-time Research Officer to Personal Chair via numerous research contracts within grant-funded research centres and a period as Associate Dean for Research Careers. She is currently a co-investigator with SHAPE-ID (Shaping Interdisciplinary Practices in Europe) and has recently published a Palgrave Pivot on “Being an Interdisciplinary Academic”.
2A. Dawn Watkins is a Professor of Law at the University of Leicester. With Prof. Mandy Burton she is co-editor of Research Methods in Law (2nd Ed. Routledge, 2017). She is currently leading a 5 year research project FORTITUDE, which aims to measure and improve the legal capability of children and young people, drawing on theories of play. This work is funded by a €2 million consolidator grant from the European Research Council and follows on from her earlier Law in Children's Lives project, funded by an ESRC Transformative grant from 2014-2106. Dawn is a National Teaching Fellow. She has been shortlisted for the Law Teacher of the Year Award and is now a member of the judging panel for this award, sponsored by Oxford University Press. She is a former Solicitor and serves as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal.
2B.Mandy Burton is Professor of Socio-Legal at the University of Leicester. Her research interests span family law and criminal justice. She has carried out numerous empirical projects, often for UK Government departments and public bodies, particularly related to improving legal responses to domestic abuse. She is committed to policy relevant research and making an impact.
3.Tracy is Professor of Digital Culture at the Institute of Creative Technologies, De Montfort University. She has a management background in practice, with a PhD in negotiation behaviour, and is director of the university’s Usability Lab (see www.dmu.ac.uk/usabilitylab). She is director of the award-winning Art AI Festival (see art-ai.dmu.ac.uk). She is a Higher Education Academy National Teacher Fellow and has held positions as a member of the East Midlands regional board of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a chief examiner for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in the past.
Tracy’s research has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, InnovateUK and InternetNZ. Her work is transdisciplinary, crossing computer science, arts, design, health and marketing disciplines. Current projects relate to the application of emerging technologies to business and consumer contexts, including AI, Internet of Things, VR and AR. She has published in leading marketing and digital creativity journals, including Journal of Services Management, Journal of Service Marketing, Journal of Service Theory and Practice, Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Leonardo, Digital Creativity and Journal of Visual Culture. She is Area Editor for the European Innovation Alliance's Endorsed Transactions on Creative Technologies and a Programme Committee Member of the IEEE International Conference on Creative Lifestyle Computing.
4. Tapas Mishra is a Professor & Head of Banking and Finance at the Southampton Business School, the University of Southampton, UK. He is founding director of Centre for Empirical Research in Finance and Banking in the Southampton Business School. Tapas holds a doctorate in economics from the Centre for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE) at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. Prior to his various university positions, Tapas has served as a Scientist and as a Consultant at the prestigious International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Technical University of Vienna both in Austria, the Institute for Future Studies in Sweden, and the Institute of Economic Growth in New Delhi, India. He was a recipient of the Marie Curie post-doctoral Fellowship and the CNRS postdoctoral fellowship. Over the years, Tapas has been awarded a number of international and national research grants that include, among others, the Leverhulme Trust, Ford Foundation-Winrock International, the British Council and the Swedish Research Council. He has published over 50 research articles in world leading journals in economics and finance. Tapas has been awarded the student nominated Vice Chancellor Award for Distinguished Teaching thrice. Currently, he is serving as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Finance, Economies and Cliometrica.
5.Soobaroyen, Teerooven
Teerooven's research focuses on the interplay between accounting, accountability and governance. His work considers diverse empirical settings such as companies in developing/emerging economies, corporate foundations, public sector, charities, non-governmental organisations and higher education institutions. Teerooven has held academic positions at the University of Mauritius, Aberystwyth University, and the University of Southampton. He has taught financial accounting and management accounting at undergraduate and at Masters/MBA level and has supervised to completion twelve PhD students. He has held various external examining positions for taught programmes and currently is the undergraduate accounting external examiner for Cardiff University and the MBA external examiner for the Open University of Mauritius. He has also been a PhD external examiner for a number of UK and overseas institutions. Teerooven is currently the President of the African Accounting and Finance Association (www.aafassociation.com) and President of the British Accounting and Finance Association (www.bafa.ac.uk). He is an Associate Editor of Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal (SAMPJ), editorial board member of Accounting Forum, Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies and Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management. He has acted as a reviewer for a number of internationally recognised journals and was one of the guest editors for a special issue of the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies on 'Accounting and Governance in Africa'.
