Real World Eye Tracking As A Tool For The Arts

A 2 day course run by the Department of Psychology, Royal Holloway, University.

Provide evidence based results for your audience, and learn how eye tracking can provide meaningful insights. This is a course that keeps pace with the latest developments in fast changing eye tracking technology environment. Compare state-of-the-art, multiplatform eye-tracking remote, mobile and VR based systems.

Gain hands-on experience from data collection to analysis and interpretation to provide you with confidence to run your own studies. 
Learn from small group and one-to-one contact with academic and industry practitioners with years of experience in the field. 

Aimed at arts and humanities researchers, this course will give an introduction to how measuring the positions of the eyes (which are constantly moving whilst in visual environment) may be useful in gaining insight in the audience visual experience.

Students will become familiar with what eye tracking can tell us about the perception, attention, thoughts and emotions of people when interacting with visual displays. From screen based displays, to real world objects and spaces to virtual reality, different methods of eye tracking can be used.

The course will familiarise participants with the background theory of attention and findings on how eye tracking measures have been found to be informative of internal mental states.

The course will provide technical instruction on how to used eye trackers, giving a participants relevant grounding in the terminology and practical considerations.

The course will provide small group mini-projects giving participants a chance to gain hands- on experience in suing eye tracking as well as analysing the data in such a way as to gain meaningful insight.

The course is taught by Dr Tim Holmes, Dr Szonya Durant and Prof Johannes Zanker with a guest lecture from Dr Tim Smith.
