The notion of place is being called into question like never before. Globalisation, mass migration, digital technology, Covid-19, and the climate crisis are all distorting traditional definitions of place, as the global and the local become more and more intertwined. As a consequence – following the spatial turn – place has become a central concern and framework for analysis.
This one-day interdisciplinary conference, funded by Techne-AHRC, invites reflections on the changing meaning(s) of place in this planetary age. The conference explores the ways in which today’s global systems and planetary processes may change or challenge conceptualisations of place and locality, bringing together pressing, innovative research and practice from across the geo-humanities.
The event will be be held in hybrid format, in-person at Kingston University's Town Hall and online via Zoom.
Please note there is a very limited number of physical spaces available, so booking admission will be first come, first serve.
