This session will encourage attendees to think about portfolio career options though showcasing speakers who have broad experiences of working both inside and outside of academia.
Ghislaine Boddington has worked for the BBC, UKRI, the British Council, and Deutsche Bank among others and is currently a Reader in Digital Immersion at the University of Greenwich. As an award-winning keynote speaker, curator, director and futurist, she will be sharing her experiences over the course of a well established portfolio career whilst Dr Lauren Baker and Dr Gemma Outen will be speaking from early career perspectives. Dr Lauren Baker is a Senior Research Fellow at Northumbria University with a background in textile design, curatorial practices and workshop facilitation whilst Dr Gemma Outen is Learning and Engagement Coordinator at The Whitaker Museum and Programme Manager at TCCE. They will be sharing their own experiences, as well as providing hints, tips and practical advice for those beginning a portfolio career.
The final part of the session will be led by Suzie Leighton, Co-Director of TCCE who will lead students to think about their own career path and professional development using the Octagon Asset tool. This workshop will help students to identify and understand their own skills and assets and how they could use their networks to build on them. The workshop will also ask participants to reflect on their core purpose, values and likes and dislikes to inform the development of portfolio working.
This workshop is designed for Techne students who are undertaking collaborative or practice-based work as part of their PhD research.
The Culture Capital Exchange (TCCE) is one of the country’s key Cultural Knowledge Exchange organisations. We have an established and extensive track record of work in supporting collaboration, partnerships, networks and engagements of various kinds between Higher Education and the arts and cultural sectors dating back to since our inception as LCACE in 2005.
TCCE will be running a series of five workshops throughout the 22/23 academic year. These will support collaborative or practice-based students from Techne DTP to build partnerships and working relationships with the arts and cultural sectors. These workshops will enable students to focus on their career development, particularly with reference to working across sectors, and will feature expert speakers from across Higher Education and the arts and culture sectors.
