The theme for our 2018 Conference is Pulling together: collaboration, synthesis, innovation. The event will provide an opportunity for heritage professionals to discuss, consider and learn about ways in which the archaeological profession can work together - and with others - to develop innovative and exciting projects that have wide reaching benefit and become ‘greater than the sum of their parts’.

There is a huge range of sessions and CPD workshops being held at our 2018 conference. The provisional programme includes information about all the sessions and workshop, plus further details on each of the papers being presented.
The Conference also offers opportunities for businesses and organisations to promote their work to the archaeological sector. In recent years our exhibition hall has proven to be a great success and there has been a high demand for space.

Conference Bursaries In 2018 there will be two opportunities to apply for bursaries to help with the cost of attending Conference.
Hal Dalwood Memorial Conference Bursary - the Hal Dalwood Memorial Fund has been set up to provide an annual bursary to enable an early career archaeologist of any age to attend the CIfA conference. Contributions to the fund have also been made by several CIfA members and other archaeologists. The bursary will aim to cover conference attendance, travel and accommodation. It is open to those in the first ten years of their career in archaeology. Please complete the Hal Dalwood Conference Bursary form and send it to conference@archaeologists.net. Katie Roper, who was awarded the Hal Dalwood Bursary for 2017, shares her experience of the award in her My CPD diary.
CIfA’s conference bursary scheme - offers assistance of up to £100 to help with fees or travel bursaries for members who are students, unemployed or on a low income. Please complete the Bursary request form and send it to conference@archaeologists.net to be considered.
Evening events Don't forget to book your social evening events, we have a conference dinner on Wednesday (£30) and a buffet with DJ on Thursday (£15). You can also come along just for the disco. CIfA and the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) are sponsoring the first ever Tournament on Ethics for archaeologists in the UK at the conference on Friday 27 April.
We are inviting teams of 3-5 participants from University Archaeology Departments, Registered Organisations, and CIfA Special Interest Groups to enrol for the tournament. Ethical questions to debate will be pre-circulated prior to the event for the teams to prepare. Teams will make a structured series of statements and rebuttals, respond to a question from the judges and make a final statement of five minutes. The judges will include one representative of each CIfA, RPA, and Federation of Archaeological Managers and Employers (FAME).
A trophy and £500 cash prize will be presented to the winning team, along with certificates for all winners and runners-up.
