Do you struggle to explain complex ideas, in writing, to people outside your discipline, or outside academia? These days, it's essential to be able to write about your research clearly, coherently and persuasively, for a broad range of audiences. This practical workshop helps you to identify who might be interested in your research and gives you a set of tools to:
- · analyse a target audience
- · understand what your readers need and want
- · use this information to make choices about content, language and style
- · develop a set of key messages to communicate
- · craft a concise, coherent and persuasive narrative
This session is packed with activities that will help you to learn how to apply sound communications principles to writing about your own research.
Anne Wilson combines journalism, fiction and screen media writing for business with teaching and facilitating in academia. She has a PhD in Social Psychology from the LSE and, for three years, was the Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Brunel University, supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and staff academic writing. As an RLF Consultant Fellow, Anne designs and facilitates workshops for PhD students on different aspects of professional communication. Her workshops are participative, engaging, creative and they focus on 'learning by doing'.
