So far the public debate and media discourse around the EU referendum has been dominated by politics and economics. This event will broaden the discussion to reflect on Britain’s cultural and historical ties with Europe. From history to cooking, from literature to heritage, from paintings to sport, the debate will be wide-ranging and will be followed by comments from invited respondents from a range of fields and particularly to reflect the ‘young person’s’ voice which has so far been missing from the public debate. Following the event there will be opportunities for press interviews with the panellists and respondents. Panel: Sarah Dunant, novelist and broadcaster (chair) Gabriele Morcotti, Italian sports journalist and broadcaster Stella Tillyard, novelist and historian Gavin Hewitt, former BBC Europe editor Caroline Moorehead, biographer and historian Charles Saumarez Smith ,  chief executive of Royal Academy of Arts Elisabeth Luard, European cookery writer Simon Winder, writer and publisher
