In ‘Recording, Editing, Sharing 101’ you’ll learn how to make short audio ‘packages’ related to your research. A package can be thought of as a miniature podcast, and is an excellent way to help your blog or online profile reach new audiences, and can even be a ‘calling card’ for scholars interested in academic consultancy or becoming an expert on television or radio.
This is a hands-on workshop, led by Jeremy Mortimer. Jeremy is a freelance director and producer working mainly for radio and theatre. He has produced and directed over 200 radio plays and features for BBC Radio. Recent productions include dramatisations of James Joyce’s Ulysses and George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four. Jeremy has twice won the Sony Award for Best Drama production, and won a Prix Italia in 2013.
Absolute beginners and those with more experience are welcome to attend. Over the course of the workshop you will:
- Identify the areas of your research that can translate to compelling audio
- Learn recording and digital editing basics
- Work in a pairs or a small group to produce a short package
- Discuss common mistakes to avoid, and tricks you can use to achieve a professional sound
- Realise the power of audio as a way of sharing your research, and get practical advice on how best to share your finished package
Short listening sessions, will break up the day (and lunch, please bring your own, or there are cafes near by), with a final listening session to get feedback and ideas on how to make your audio even better.
