Venue: Grand Parade Board Room, Brighton
PhD students are invited to attend an interdisciplinary training day on ‘anti-theory’ methods in the humanities. ‘Anti-theory’ approaches expose ways in which pre-existing theoretical frameworks shape research, and encourage researchers to engage closely with how concepts and ideas are used in social practices. As such, they eschew certain forms of theoretical abstraction in favour of exploring the meaning of concepts in use and in practice. Hence Philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s invitation: ‘don’t think but look’.
The day will be predominantly student-led, and offer an opportunity for students to share research and research methods with one another. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
Places are limited to 24. To confirm your attendance, please reply to I.A.Sinclair@brighton.ac.uk. Registration deadline is: 6th October 2017
