Postgraduate Design History Society (PDHS)

Who we are

We are an informal and friendly community of postgraduates and researchers; all fascinated by Design History, Material Culture, Dress History and related studies. The group has been going since 2005 brought together by the University of Brighton’s international reputation in this field. Many of us, but not all, joined the group whilst studying on the MA in History of Design and Material Culture. We number about sixty including current and alumni students, local, national and international early career researchers and museum professionals.

What we do

The group’s purpose is to offer each other support through

a lively email discussion forum where we ask questions and share our experiences relating to our studies, work and interests
an exchange of information – we keep up to date by emailing details to the online forum e.g. opportunities to present your research, conferences, sources of funding, internships, exhibitions, jobs and more
getting together socially – recently we met over a meal to welcome new members as well as trips to exhibitions and a theatre performance
an annual PDHS symposium – a chance to get involved in organising or presenting at our own academic event and to meet others from the group and wider design history community
