The Toronto-Brighton image exchange program was set up in 2010 by Prof Vid Ingelevics, School of Image Arts, Ryerson University, and Julia Winckler, Faculty of Arts, Brighton. 

In June 2010, Vid had been able to see the Final Year degree show at Grand Parade and was very impressed with the high quality of the students' work. Later that year, in October, Julia was invited to the photography course at the School of Image Arts, Toronto, to introduce the idea of the image exchange, and to tell the Canadian students about the Photography BA(Hons) at Brighton.

Enthusiasm for the exchange was strong on both sides of the Atlantic. The image exchange has led to informal networks, online friendships, and students commenting on each others work. The idea is that 2nd year students select three images from a current project to share - and to include a short work statement, email link and web address.
