Description | The joy of writing competitions...and why they can pave your way towards publication success As part of Brighton Fringe 2014. The University of Brighton in collaboration with Myriad Editions. Award-winning authors Jonathan Kemp and Lesley Thomson join fellow judges of this year’s Writer’s Retreat Competition — literary agent Becky Thomas, reviewer and saloniere Laura Lockington, publisher Candida Lacey and fiction editor Vicky Blunden — to discuss the importance of prizes and competitions, share insights and offer advice to aspiring and new writers. The judges will also introduce the short-listed writers, explaining why each was selected, and announce the winner of the 2014 Writer’s Retreat Competition. We are delighted to welcome our panel of special guests: Vicky Blunden, Fiction Editor at Myriad Editions Jonathan Kemp, author and Creative Writing tutor at Birkbeck College, University of London. Candida Lacey, Publisher and Managing Director at Myriad Editions. Laura Lockington, author, reviewer and co-host of The Bookish Supper Society and Book Doctor. Becky Thomas, literary agent at Fox Mason Agency. Lesley Thomson, author and course leader at West Dean’s MA in Creative Writing This event is organised by Isabel Ashdown, the University of Brighton’s Writer in Residence. Isabel is the author of three novels, all published by Myriad: Glasshopper, Hurry Up and Wait and most recently, Summer of ’76. A free event - all welcome. |
