Strindberg’s interest as a painter in the subject of the CAPPE's 4th Annual International Interdisciplinary conference, The Politics of Space and Place, (16 - 18 September) is twofold. For some time now her work has been interwoven with her interest in politics. In 2004 Strindberg produced a show entitled ‘Among the Believers’, which focused on the invasion/war in Iraq and its aftermath.
With the unexpected discovery of a close relation of hers living in Israel in 2006, however, Strindberg’s (geographical) focus shifted to Israel. And very soon what began as an investigation of a previously unknown family link with Israel developed into a visual exploration of the current politics and the difficult history of Israel/Palestine.
Two recent visits to Israel/Palestine have also fed Strindberg with images and source material for this show.
Exhibition open 16 – 30 September 10am – 5pm (closed Sundays)
