Experiences from the Ukraine - Oleksandr Pidhonyy and Nataliya Drozd - Centre Dobrochyn, Chernihiv
As the conflict in Ukraine entered its third year, local communities should not only deal with the new challenges by quick response, but also provide durable solutions. Peaceful and sustainable local development could be reached through an ongoing dialogue in communities at all levels. It is crucial to develop a shared vision for the communities’ participation in local governance.
NGO “Dobrochyn Center” offers some reflections on the local dynamics of the community development in conflict from an on-the-ground perspective as well as role of activists in promotion of reform agenda. How local host communities and IDPs (Internally displaced persons) groups can mitigate conflicts? What is the role of the local government in this process? Who should design a better communication approach within the communities and improve participation of the local population in the decision-making process? Discussions on this theme will contribute to development of a longer-term strategy of conflict transformation and building capacity for more effective communication in Ukraine.
