The Keep, Wollards Way, Brighton, BN1 9BP
Brighton was once home to many theatres, with the first opening in 1774, but only two - the Theatre Royal and the Hippodrome - survive today. In this illustrated talk, Christopher Horlock will reveal the stories of the theatres themselves, as well as the changing tastes in stage entertainment over the years, from the melodrama of the Georgian period, through music hall and twice-nightly variety, to Brighton's first pop concerts of the post-war years.
