This exhibition brings together work by sixty artists exploring the nocturnal. It is curated by, and features the work of artist and University of Brighton, College of Arts lecturer Tom Hammick.
Towards Night delves into the many interpretations and representations of the theme of night throughout art history. Artist Tom Hammick curates an exhibition that draws together paintings and prints that invite the visitor to experience a journey into a world of wonderment, insomnia and revelry. Towards Night includes works by J.M.W. Turner, Caspar David Friedrich and Edvard Munch alongside contemporary artists such as Peter Doig, Stephen Chambers and Phoebe Unwin.

Review: Alistair Hicks, Apollo Magazine, 12 October 2016.
"Tom Hammick knows about painting in the night. He works through the night in his studio. Apart from anything else there are not enough hours in the day for Hammick to both teach (at the University of Brighton) and to paint his own luminous canvases. The night is in them, and in him – as proven by the exhibition he has curated across five galleries in the Towner, Eastbourne. Through the work of over 60 artists, he takes us on a personal nocturnal journey."
