In 2007 the Lewenhak Collection was deposited with Screen Archive South East. Dr. Sheila Lewenhak made a presentation about the archive showing a selection of his film productions, including Thread Through the Family (1961), Change Direction (1992) and 50 Years On (1994).
Kurt 'Lew' Lewenhak (1921 - 2004) was an innovative producer/director and a passionate communicator and teacher. He started his career in television working some 12 years for ITV. At Nottingham College of Technology he pioneered Community TV on a housing estate and designed with colleagues a Solar-Powered television set for use in underdeveloped countries. In the 1970s he developed an interactive 'Response Language Learning System'. In 1976 he became Head of International training at Visnews, the film and video arm of Reuters News. After retiring in 1987 he continued delivering training at St. Xavier Institute of Communications and Brunai State Television. In the 1980s he voluntarily produced various films and videos for the campaign for nuclear disarmament.
As chair of the Association of Cinematograph and Television Technicians' Peace & Disarmament Committee he instigated in 1986 the 'One Minute Silence for Peace,' which is observed at the start of the annual opening session of the UN General Assembly.
