"In conversation" event
Following her recent honorary doctorate from the University of Brighton, artist Alison Lapper returned to her former university to discuss her life and work.
Born without arms and with shortened legs, Lapper uses photography, digital imaging and painting to question physical normality and beauty – and she became world famous after posing for Marc Quinn for the sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. Engaging, determined and witty, she has been described as a “titan of the human spirit” and a “force for everything that is good”.
