Techne Career Development Programme

  

We have a career development programme specifically tailored to the needs of Techne PhD students. This is a unique opportunity to gain expert advice and guidance to enable you to progress your career beyond your PhD. Careers consultant Darcey Gillie is here to support you in all aspects career of decision making, job hunting, CVs, applications and interviews for both the academic and non-academic job market, looking at it all from an arts and humanities doctoral research perspective.


Services on offer:

  • Darcey, our dedicated Techne Careers Consultant, can give individual help and advice on all aspects of post-PhD career planning in confidential, one-to-one careers appointments
  • webinars on topics such as planning an academic career, portfolio careers, making friends and influencing people (networking)
  • a library of online resources to answer some of your careers questions

It is never too early to think about your career. Indeed, engaging with your career planning early on can help give you time to develop your skills and plan your next steps after you finish your PhD.

 

Techne Careers Consultant - Darcey Gillie

Darcey has over 12 years’ experience supporting the careers of PGRs, research staff, and senior academic colleagues. She was pedagogical lead on the FutureLearn MOOC “Career Management for Early Career Academic Researchers”, which won a national award for impact and was used by researchers all over the world.  In addition to being an experienced careers consultant for research students and research staff, she was a professional development manager at the University of Sheffield where she taught on the PG Cert in Academic Practice, the Sheffield Teaching Assistant (teaching skills for PGRs), developed training in blended learning for HEA fellowships, coached fellowship applicants, and coached successful National Teaching Fellow candidates. Darcey is now a self-employed careers consultant and leadership/management coach at www.thecareerdoctor.online
