Hi, I’m Kathy, one of the Careers Consultants working on the technē project and I wanted to say hello and share a bit about myself. I’ve had
a few careers to date and am currently balancing work as a Careers Consultant
and researcher. I started off doing an English Literature degree at the
University of Sussex and afterwards decided to train as a teacher. I taught
English, Drama and Media for a few years before deciding I wanted to do some
more studying and also immerse myself in the arts more!
Next I did an MA in Cultural and Creative Industries at
King’s College and really enjoyed being back in London, surrounded by
opportunities to explore arts and culture! I worked for a while at the ICA and
loved developing materials for education packs and managing teachers previews,
perhaps the most memorable exhibition I worked on being Louis Gréaud’s three
identical rooms, with a curious interactive installation in each! https://archive.ica.art/whats-on/loris-gr-aud
I also worked in theatres, specialising in arts education and
community arts outreach programmes, before deciding that I wanted to do yet
more studying! I began my PhD at City, University of London researching
cultural work and the production of space. I have just submitted my thesis
which uses a case study of Southbank Centre, London to explore how cultural
workers make and interact with cultural spaces and with layers of cultural
history.

Alongside my PhD for the last five years I’ve been working
part time as a Careers Consultant, specialising in supporting researchers and
students in the arts and humanities. I currently work at SOAS, University of
London and provide tailored careers support to the Doctoral School and School
of Arts. During this time I’ve also been lucky enough to deliver guest lectures
for a variety of universities in London, including designing and delivering
core modules for the BA Cultural and Creative Industries at City.
