Internationally renowned for her innovations in screendance, Professor Liz Aggiss is a performer, choreographer and film-maker. She was a teacher and researcher at the University of Birghton for many years, developing the institutions reputation for performance, particularly screen dance.
John Bellany, CBE, is an eminent Scottish painter born in 1942 in Port Seton, into a Calvinist family of fishermen and boat builders. As a child Bellany spent a great deal time with his grandparents in Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders, which later informed much of his work.
Living in the crafts hothouse of Ditchling in the 1930s Dunstan Pruden was much influenced by the Eric Gill and the Guild of St Dominic, under whose auspices (with Philip Hargreen) he published Silversmithing: its principles and practice in small workshops.
Julien Macdonald studied fashion knit wear at The University of Brighton, which lead to him receiving a scholarship for the Royal Collage of Art. His creative vision has inspired international acclaim for injecting a high dosage of glamour back into the fashion industry.

Internationally celebrated for his paintings, Professor Jackowski explores images of dispossession, loss and identity. At Brighton between 1987 and 2013, Jackowski's explorations of personal and collective memory are at the root of his researches into identities and cultures as handed on and explored through stories and images.
Born in 1913, Thurston Hopkins' career made him one of the great British photojournalists. Working for "Picture Post" in the fifties and becoming one of London's more successful advertising photographers before moving into teaching.
David Robson joined Brighton Polytechnic School of Architecture in early 1984. "The ethos of the School still owed much to its Arts and Crafts foundations with a structure of Beaux Art rationalism and clad with a layer of Bauhaus modernism."

Professor Michael Tucker was honoured in 2012 as a Knight: First Class in recognition for his 'outstanding service in the interest of Norway.' His career at the Faculty of Arts included the curation of exhibitions at the Gallery for over thirty years and publications on shamanism, Norwegian culture, jazz and, notably, the work of Sir Alan Davie.
Native of Brighton and a teacher at Brighton School of Art in the 1960s, Raymond Briggs trained at the Wimbledon School of Art and the Slade. Since 1957 he has been an illustrator and writer, mainly of children’s books but also adult political satire, stage plays and radio plays, producing iconic work including "The Snowman" and "When the Wind Blows."

Internationally acclaimed bookbinder Jenni Grey has been President of Designer Bookbinders and has regular contracts to bind the Mann Booker winning novel. She won the Sir Paul Getty Bodleian Bookbinding Prize in 2009. She works with materials such as wood and metal, and techniques such as embroidery.
Alan Baker was a student of Graphic Design and Illustration from 1973-76. He taught on the foundation course and the Narrative illustration MA courses in its early days and spent seven years teaching part-time on the BA(Hons) Illustration course.
Having a long association with Brighton, distinguished artist and illustrator John Vernon Lord was appointed Professor of Illustration in 1986, then Professor Emeritus. His picture book "The Giant Jam Sandwich" (1972) has become a classic while his illustrated edition of The Nonsense Verse of Edward Lear (1984) won two national awards.
Gwyther Irwin was an artist of great originality and invention who became head of fine art at Brighton College of Art in 1969, where he remained until 1984.
Artist Alison Lapper studied at Brighton and was invited to become a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) at the age of sixteen. She uses a range of media, from painting, photography and digital imaging to installation to explore her subjects.
Eiichi Kono's graphic design work in corporate identity, exhibition and publishing design has included consultancies for The Economist, WH Smith, Monotype, Arts Council, and Montblanc. He has led a team developing Japanese/Latin Open Type fonts for Microsoft Windows.
Ronald Horton was an artist, collector and highly successful Head of the Art Teacher Training Department at Brighton College of Art from 1944 to 1966. Brighton’s Art Teacher Training Course under Ronald Horton was one of the most successful in Britain, attracting students from all over the world.

Peter Seddon's work as a researcher, artist and intervention artist has been informed by interest in historiography; both in the sense of histories of art, and wider political/social/cultural histories. It is also informed by an interest in image/text and theories of language. His practice crosses genres with complex historical referencing.
Laurence Scarfe worked in wide range of visual disciplines: book and magazine illustration, poster and wallpaper design, mural painting, fine art and ceramic decoration. He taught at the Central School of Art from 1945 to 1970, followed by a decade at Brighton Polytechnic, lecturing on the history of illustration and graphic design.
Barry Barker worked within the contemporary visual arts as a curator, writer and director of both publicly and privately funded arts organisations, predominately working directly with artists leading to many significant exhibitions.
