University of Brighton Fashion and Textiles 2012

Josephine May Norris

I am a Knitwear designer with a keen interest in beaded embellishments. Knitwear is exciting in its versatility which gives it scope to create garments to suit any situation and occasion. Placements at Donna Karan, Jaeger and Larch Rose furthered my knowledge in designing for customers in a commercial environment, educating on how to adapt my handwriting to different projects.

By taking inspiration from pointillism, I am able to create exciting colour combinations whilst using a mixture of single and double bed knitted fabric to form an unexpected drape and texture. Designs are developed further by incorporating unexpected folds and silhouettes using the hand-beaded embellishment for drawstrings, buttons, straps and fastenings taught by my Grandmother.
