The Plight of a Feather:

Inspiration for my collection came from the humble feather, an item that is commonly known yet holds many interesting properties. Its waterproofing, insulating and structural elements gave a bountiful research basis.

The research subject gave its self natural to fine yarn and gauges as I was able to create the details of a feather through the knit structure. I also sourced inspiration from wings which were interpreted into knit through staggered ribs, gradual pleats and racking. Against this I did create some chunky hand knit fabrics which emulated the quill of a feather. As another aspect to the collection I researched waterproofing knitwear which resulted in foiling and knit structures that would aid the flow of water of the fabric both of which feature in the line up. To conclude the collection juxtaposes the detail of the structure with the decorative side of feathers.
