Carolyn Watt

I have always been a conscientious and motivated person. Highly creative and energetic, paying meticulous attention to detail. During my time at WGSN I learnt a wealth of research and organisational techniques as well as writing reports. Studying a Masters of Design required a huge amount of research and development, which I thoroughly enjoy. Whilst interning at Donna Karan, New York, gave me the opportunity to liaise with a variety of clients and experience a completely different design environment.

Outside of university I have a keen interest in circus and performance and the world surrounding this, I have performed at a variety of cabarets and events over the last 3 years as well as working as costumier on many shows, including theatre, film and circus.

My final Mdes project, Spectacles looks at contemporary circus as a whole, the costumes worn, both their practical qualities as well as their aesthetic. Examining the whole atmosphere of the show, placing much of the focus on the silhouette of the body form. Spectacles explores the notion of the second skin, layering fabrics that peel away to reveal under layers focusing on tactile qualities of the fabrics, before finally moving on to concentrate on idea of projections upon the figure and in a performance setting.
