Initial comment:
Françoise Dupré 's exhibition brings together a series of installations that celebrate women's creativity and use crafting to create ephemeral, playful, extraordinary sculptural patterns and objects. Her work uses a wide range of everyday, disposable objects and materials including children's socks, carrier bags and plastic bottle tops. Carrier bags are chosen for their association with the transnational condition of contemporary life. Alongside her individual works there are two installations made using a collaborative-participatory approach: OUVRAGE [uvra:ž] (2009) created with Mostar's association Novi Pogled, a Breast Cancer survivors support and campaign group and Farshaxanaka Dumarka (women artists)(2011) created with Back to Basics, the London Somali women's group.
