Waste and Energy Research Group
The Waste & Energy Research Group (WERG) based at the University of Brighton was established by Professor Marie Harder in 1995. Over the last decade WERG has evolved into a multi-disciplinary research group, working on sustainable energy and waste management projects with local authorities, NGOs, waste management companies and consultancies (see full list of past contracts).

- Waste In Action: INTERREG IVa funded cross border training course
- Developing a strategy for managing commerial waste in partnership with East and West Sussex County Councils and Brighton & Hove City Council.
- Teaching Waste Management workshops held throughout South Africa in 2010.
- Supporting the development of the Waste Improvement Network.
- Developing and delivering the award winning Waste Prevention Advisor project in partnership with Better Tomorrows and West Sussex County Council.
