Fine Art

Fine Art at Brighton fosters a dynamic research culture with three key aims:

To nurture individual research through group appraisal
To promote collaborative inter-disciplinary research within the university and beyond.
To generate networks and encourage research partnerships to a national and international level.

To do this, the Initiative is split into six interlinked topics:

Art & Technology - studio and process-based research
The Art Cell - inter-disciplinary research, linking art and bio-medical science
Art & Performance - ‘live’ and audio-visual research that explores the interface between these two disciplines
Innovation in Teaching & Learning - student placements and pedagogic collaborations
Art in the Environment - research carried out as a response to climate change and natural phenomena
Inclusive Arts - research collaborations with communities who, traditionally, work outside the artworld)
Drawing Research Interest Group (DRIG) – research into expanded notions of drawing

As part of its continual development of research the group holds regular peer discussions, reviews, exhibitions, awaydays and symposia.

Raising the profile of ecological literacy within design education

This project utilised advanced computational techniques to visualise glazing and its impact on its environment

This small scale research project was designed to respond to the issues raised in the baseline research

Connecting new and traditional technologies for enhanced communication between students, academic and support staff across arts and design

Brockley Primary School in Lewisham became the focal point of a student project

An exhibition inspired by the bankruptcy of Woolworths

The Co-working project assesses the scale and impact made by design practitioners to Higher Education

A competition to design and build concrete furniture for an outside area

Contributing to students' creativity and learning by using recycled glass

Enabling design students to understand differential issues of globalisation and its challenges in a development context

A study exploring the projects funded by the CETLD from an ‘outsider’ perspective

This arts/medicine collaborative project explores opportunities for design interventions in the clinical environment
